George Mason University’s cost of attendance budget is an average cost used by the GMU Office of Student Financial Aid to determine eligibility for need based financial aid. The budget includes (1) direct educational expenses (tuition, fees, books and supplies) and (2) indirect education expenses (room, board, personal, medical and transportation). Each student’s budget will vary depending on the student’s actual enrollment, room choice, board plan and other variables. This budget based on a nine-month academic year.

Average GMU room and board increased by 4.5%, used 4% average increase based on double room and 15 meal flex plan (2008-2009 room and board rates per Budget Office spreadsheet to BOV) Bureau of Labor & Statistics increase CPI of 4%, increased room & board based on aver of 2 person apartment See NASFAA Monograph #9, April 1993, pages 6 and 7.
